With the 2026 Assam Assembly elections drawing closer, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) has begun strengthening its organizational base across the Barak Valley. The latest political development unfolded in North Karimganj Aggregate, where the AJP organized a massive joining and organizational meeting under the leadership of District President Syed Sakilur Rahman.

The event, held in the Ghoramara Laskar Bazar area of North Karimganj, marked a significant political shift as over 200 Congress and Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leaders and workers officially joined the AJP. The new entrants were led by Abdul Muktadir, a current Panchayat representative, along with Sabir Ahmed, Abdul Mannan Chowdhury, and Nurai Mia, a respected businessman of the region.

These joiners were warmly welcomed by senior district AJP leaders including Secretary Abdullah Al Mahfuz, Organizing Secretary Muzakkir Khan, Vice President Makhluq Ahmed, Publicity Secretary Tahmid Aslam, and senior party workers Rashid Ahmed Chowdhury and Abdul Ghaffar Talukdar.

District President Syed Sakilur Rahman, in his address, emphasized that the people of Assam are looking for an honest alternative. “After the demise of Zubin, an anti-BJP sentiment is sweeping across the state. People are increasingly showing faith in the Assam Jatiya Parishad’s clear and uncompromising leadership under Lurin Jyoti Gogoi,” he said. & Assam Jatiya Parishad symbol

AJP Strengthens Its Base in Barak Valley as 200 Leaders Join the Party Voices of Change — Leadership and Local Sentiment

Speaking at the event, AJP Secretary Abdullah Al Mahfuz underlined the growing importance of regionalism in Assam’s politics, especially in the Barak Valley. Quoting former U.S. President Bill Clinton, he stated that if the AJP forms a government in Assam, “it will be a government of the people, for the people, and by the people.”

He further highlighted that rural Assam is now looking towards AJP as a genuine alternative to national parties that have failed to deliver transparency and development. The recent wave of corruption scandals, nepotism, and the alleged “ticket-selling practices” within the Congress party during the last Panchayat elections have left a deep mark on the public’s mind.

Meanwhile, Organizing Secretary Muzakkir Khan, Vice President Makhluq Ahmed, and Publicity Secretary Tahmid Aslam Chowdhury echoed the district president’s sentiment, calling for unity and ethical politics. They reiterated that AJP’s policies are rooted in local welfare, youth empowerment, and rural progress.

The mass joining event signifies that the AJP’s presence in Sribhumi district is now stronger than ever, setting the stage for a competitive battle in the upcoming 2026 Assam Assembly Elections

Why the Grassroots Are Choosing AJP

Among the new joiners, Abdul Muktadir, Abdul Mannan, Sabir Ahmed, and Nurai Mia expressed their confidence in the leadership of AJP President Lurin Jyoti Gogoi and District President Syed Sakilur Rahman. They noted that the AJP’s commitment to regional integrity and anti-corruption values deeply influenced their decision to switch allegiance.

“People want a party that listens, not one that sells promises. AJP gives us that hope,” remarked Abdul Mannan, a former Gram Panchayat Vice President.

Observers believe that this massive inclusion drive will have a ripple effect across the Karimganj region, where both Congress and BJP have been struggling with internal conflicts. Analysts also note that AJP’s clean image and regional identity appeal to the youth and first-time voters, particularly in rural areas.

As the 2026 elections approach, the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) appears determined to strengthen its foothold across both North and South Karimganj, making Sribhumi District a political focal point.

With its grassroots approach and people-centric agenda, the AJP’s growing momentum could well redefine the political landscape of the Barak Valley
