Assam Government, Land Lease Certificate, Landmark Patta, 14 allotments A 70-Year Struggle for Justice
For more than seven decades, the people of Bandarkona GP lived on this land, having purchased it long ago, yet they were deprived of legal recognition. Without official lease documents (Patta), they faced constant insecurity and the threat of losing their ancestral homes. Political promises were made repeatedly, but no government or leader could resolve the issue. Now, with the intervention of the Guwahati High Court, the government of Assam has finally recognized their rights by granting official land leases to the first 14 families.
The Role of the High Court and Administration

The Guwahati High Court issued clear directions to the Assam Government and the Karimganj District Administration to resolve the land dispute and provide land lease certificates to eligible families. Following the court’s directive, the Land Sale Permission Certificate was issued by the Assam Government, bearing the official seal and signature of concerned authorities. This certificate legally secures the ownership rights of the families and ensures that their decades-long struggle was not in vain.
