DIPRO Sribhumi October 29, 2025:
In a remarkable statewide initiative, the Great Assam School Shakeout 2025 mock drill was successfully organized across 40 educational institutions in Sribhumi District on Wednesday. The event was held under the initiative of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and coordinated by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sribhumi.

The mock drill was conducted simultaneously in all revenue circles of the district — including Sribhumi Sadar, Nilam Bazar, Patharkandi, Badarpur, and Ramakrishna Nagar. Its main objective was to strengthen awareness among students, teachers, and staff regarding earthquake and fire preparedness, as well as to minimize loss of life and property during disasters.

The exercises demonstrated the “Drop, Cover, and Hold” technique for earthquake safety and the “Stop, Drop, and Roll” method for fire emergencies. These drills helped students gain hands-on experience in how to act during critical moments. Teachers and volunteers trained under the Apda Mitra Scheme actively participated in guiding students and ensuring safety protocol awareness across schools

Disaster Readiness Becomes a Priority for Sribhumi District

Officials from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Fire and Emergency Services, and various local administration units were also present during the mock drills, assisting in practical demonstrations and awareness sessions.

The District Programme Officer, Siju Das, of the Sribhumi DDMA, informed that on the day of the exercise, 20 schools under Sribhumi Sadar Circle, 6 under Nilam Bazar, 4 under Patharkandi, 5 under Badarpur, and 5 under Ramkrishna Nagar circle successfully conducted the Shakeout Programme.

“This initiative ensures that both students and staff learn how to react swiftly and calmly during a real disaster. Our goal is to build a disaster-resilient education system,” said Officer Das.

The Technical Advisor of ASDMA, Rajesh Dutta, also visited several schools during the drills and extended both technical guidance and hands-on support to the participating teams. His field involvement reinforced the importance of practical learning, simulation, and institutional coordination during disaster scenarios

The Great Assam School Shakeout Programme reflects the Government of Assam’s broader vision of integrating disaster risk reduction practices into educational environments. In recent years, the state has emphasized school-level preparedness to ensure that future generations are aware, responsive, and resilient against natural calamities such as earthquakes, floods, and fires.

The Sribhumi initiative drew appreciation from the community and educators alike, who recognized that such drills foster a culture of safety and confidence among young learners. Students enthusiastically participated in the demonstrations, practicing emergency evacuation and first-aid steps under the supervision of SDRF and Fire Department officials.

District authorities confirmed that similar mock drills will continue to be held periodically, ensuring that disaster preparedness becomes a continuous learning practice across all institutions.

This effort under the ASDMA-DDMA partnership reaffirms that safety is not only the responsibility of the authorities but a shared commitment among citizens, educators, and students to build a Safer, Stronger, and Smarter Assam
