Netaji & Mangal Pandey Statues in Silchar Announces Rs 700 Cr Today, 31 August 2025, Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma unveiled a 24.5 feet tall bronze statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, the immortal hero of the Indian freedom movement, at Rangirkhadi intersection in Silchar. This statue has been established as a symbol of the long-standing passion and struggle of the people of Silchar.
History of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s statue The first statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was installed at Rangirkhadi intersection in Silchar in 1983. At that time, the local people collected 2 lakh rupees to build this statue, which was a significant amount in the economic context of that time. This initiative was a reflection of the deep respect and love of the people of Silchar for the freedom struggle.
Currently, the “Netaji Statue Reconstruction and Installation Committee” led by Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty has installed a new 24.5 feet high bronze statue. The sculpture was created by world-renowned sculptor Arun Yogiraj, which stands at Rangirkhadi intersection in Silchar as a symbol of Netaji’s immortal sacrifice and bravery.

Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma said at the unveiling ceremony, “Today’s statue is not just a tribute to Netaji, it is a symbol of the unwavering commitment of the people of Silchar to their freedom struggle.” He further mentioned, “The first statue of Netaji was installed 40 years ago by collecting Rs. 2 lakh, today’s new statue is a continuation of that tradition.”
Notably, at this event, the Chief Minister expressed his gratitude to the people of Silchar for their historical contribution and promised more developmental activities in the future.
Development project announcement
Along with the unveiling of the sculpture, the Chief Minister announced the construction of a flyover from Rangirkhari in Silchar to Capital Point at a cost of Rs 700 crore. He said, “This flyover will play a significant role in solving the traffic congestion problem in Silchar and will open new horizons for the development of Barak Valley.”
