Sribhumi Mock Drill Joins Assam’s Statewide Disaster Management Drill
Sribhumi, October 26, 2025: Under the initiative of the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a major disaster management mock drill will be organized across educational institutions in the state on Wednesday, October 29.
In Sribhumi district, mock drills will be conducted in 40 schools across all revenue circles as part of the “Great Assam School Shake-Out” program. The objective is to reduce loss of life and property during natural disasters such as earthquakes and fires through preparedness, awareness, and hands-on practice.
During the drill, students will be trained on the “Drop, Cover, Hold” method — a crucial technique to protect oneself during earthquakes. Similarly, the “Stop, Drop, Roll” method will be demonstrated to handle emergency fire situations effectively.
Teachers serving as school focal point coordinators, along with Apda Mitra volunteers, will lead the demonstrations and help raise awareness among students. The Sribhumi District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has appealed to all departments and institutions to extend full cooperation for the successful execution of the event. DIPRO Sribhumi
Orientation Program and Coordination at District Level
To ensure smooth coordination, a district-level preparatory meeting was held earlier in Sribhumi, attended by officials, school representatives, and volunteers.
In addition, an orientation program was conducted across revenue circles on Friday for focal point teachers, volunteers, fire and emergency service personnel, and SDRF officers. The aim was to familiarize participants with the drill’s procedures and ensure synchronization between departments during the mock exercise.
Officials stated that such mock drills not only test institutional readiness but also help identify weaknesses in school disaster management systems. By organizing these drills, the administration aims to enhance coordination between departments and strengthen response capacity at the grassroots level.
The Sribhumi DDMA further emphasized that safety awareness among students is critical to minimizing risks during disasters.
This awareness drive aligns with the vision of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Assam, and receives guidance from District Commissioner Kaushik Rai and Minister Krishnendu Paul, reflecting the government’s commitment to disaster preparedness and student safety
