Zubeen Garg Case, Baska Jail Protest On 15th October 2025, a protest occurred outside Baska District Jail during the transfer of the accused in the death case of popular Assamese singer Zubeen Garg. The accused – Shyamkanu Mahanta, Siddharth Sharma, Sandipan Garg among others – were being brought to the jail when Zubeen’s supporters protested with slogans of “Justice for Zubeen Garg”.
Police attempted to control the crowd using lathi charge, tear gas, and firing (some reports mention blank rounds, others claim minor bullet injuries). More than 60–80 people were injured, including protesters, police personnel, and journalists.
Clarification on Deepak Medhi: Claims about the death of Deepak Medhi, a local youth from Dumuni, are false. He was seriously injured due to gunfire but is alive. He was treated at Mushalpur Hospital and later transferred to AIIMS Changsari for successful surgery. The Assam government is covering his medical expenses.
