Complaint Filed with DC and SSP Against Mysterious Objection in Eraligul Land Patta Process

Eraligool Residents Protest In the Eraligool area of Bandarkuna, the land deed (patta) distribution process — initiated under High Court directives — came to an abrupt halt after a mysterious objection surfaced. The objection, described by locals as “unauthentic” and “from an unknown source,” has sparked unrest and confusion in the region. Abdur Rahman
Today, a large joint delegation representing both Hindu and Muslim communities submitted a formal memorandum to District Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi and Senior Superintendent of Police Parthapratim Das, demanding an immediate investigation and necessary administrative action.
The delegation was led by Kabir Ahmed, District Parishad Representative from Tilabari, and Abdul Sattar, former Chairman of the Patharkandi Anchalik Panchayat, along with hundreds of long-term residents from Binodini, Safala, Moynala, Tilabari, and other nearby villages.
According to the representatives, the objection was originally filed on October 18 last year at the Nilambazar Circle Office by a person named Dhiraj Bhattacharya, who allegedly referenced a group called “Hindurakshi” and made unsubstantiated claims about communal tension and land encroachment. Residents assert that the complainant has no connection to the area and is unfamiliar with local conditions.
Locals further stated that they possess legitimate sale deeds, registry papers, and historical land records, proving ownership and settlement for over 70–80 years — with some documents tracing back to 1908.
The delegation urged the administration to take the following actions: Purvanchal Pratidin
Verify the identity and claims of the complainant immediately.
Continue the patta distribution process without delay unless a valid reason is officially established.
Initiate legal action against the complainant or any influencing elements if the allegations are found to be baseless.
Following the meeting, an elderly resident remarked,
“I have lived here for 66 years. Hindus and Muslims coexist peacefully. No outsider’s false statement should threaten our harmony.”
The delegation called for transparent verification and a prompt official report, hinting at possible legal and community-level actions if assurances are not met by the administration
Historical Background, Documentary Claims, and Demand for Community Verification
Locals Approach DC and SSP Over Suspicious Objection Delaying Eraligool Land Deed Distribution In the memorandum submitted today, the delegation also summarized the historical and factual background of the dispute: Several families in Eraligool and nearby villages possess long-term sale records and registry documents, some of which date back to the 1908s, with multiple generations maintaining possession of the same land plots. The representatives noted that certain land portions were declared “Khas” in 1976; however, later judicial interventions and local claims led the High Court to instruct the restoration of land rights and the initiation of the patta distribution process. So far, 33 families have received pattas, and the remaining cases are in progress.
The delegation argued that the claims cited in the objection letter—such as alleged communal riots or accusations of land usurpation—are contrary to reality and target the harmony of the community. They highlighted that some memorandums or complaints contain broad and false claims, allegedly written against 30,000 people, causing serious implications for regional social reputation and security.
The representatives urged the administration to conduct a public verification of all records related to patta distribution and to publish the list of families who have already received pattas, thereby eliminating the root of rumors and confusion. They emphasized that verification and transparency are essential to restoring trust between communities.
They further stated that if the complainant publicly withdraws the objection or issues an apology, the matter could be resolved peacefully. Otherwise, the delegation indicated that judicial avenues may be pursued to safeguard the rights and reputation of the residents. Kabir Ahmed
Administrative Meeting: Assurances, Procedural Steps, and the Way Forward
During the delegation’s meeting with DC Pradeep Kumar Dwivedi and SSP Parthapratim Das, the administration acknowledged the sensitivity of the matter and assured a prompt investigation. Officials clarified that patta distribution would not be suspended unless there is concrete, valid, and legally admissible evidence; adherence to High Court directives will remain the priority. Cognizant action will only be initiated if documentary verification reveals irregularities. The delegation handed over copies of the case, registration documents, and parental records to the administration to expedite the investigation process.
The administration stated that the identity of the complainant, the source of claims, and the submitted evidence would be examined confidentially and in accordance with legal procedures. Nonetheless, they assured the delegation that strict action will be taken against those spreading communal provocation. The SSP clarified that anyone or any organization found deliberately disseminating false information will be subject to punitive legal provisions.
After the meeting, the delegation informed the media that the administration accepted the memorandum and promised to accelerate verification. The representatives also expressed their commitment to cooperate with the administration. However, they added that if the investigation’s conclusions are unsatisfactory or if the complainant’s claims are found baseless without appropriate action, they will be compelled to pursue judicial and social recourse. The dialogue between the administration and the community will continue to depend on future reporting and public verification.
Next Steps, Implications, and Community-Based Resolution Framework
The future of this dispute will largely depend on three factors: the speed and transparency of the administration’s investigation, the validity of the complainant’s claims, and the steps taken to restore trust among communities. The delegation clarified that their primary goal is the preservation of peace and protection of their legitimate land rights; they do not support any form of violence, but will not hesitate to pursue legal avenues to protect their rights.
They presented four clear demands to the administration:
Identify and publicly disclose the complainant’s identity.
Conduct transparent verification and publication of patta records and registries.
Take punitive action if claims are found baseless.
Institutionalize community-administration dialogue to prevent rumors and external interference in the future.
The delegation emphasized that if the objection is withdrawn or an apology issued, the matter could be resolved peacefully. Otherwise, they are prepared to approach the High Court and seek support from media and human rights organizations. Timely verification and public disclosure by the administration are essential to eradicate such rumors and preserve the long-standing spirit of coexistence.
In conclusion, the residents of Eraligul are sending a clear message: both land rights and communal harmony can be safeguarded, provided the administration acts with transparency, fairness, and urgency. The local community is now awaiting impartial verification, and based on the outcomes, will decide their next course of action. Media and civil society oversight will play a crucial role in restoring trust in this sensitive issue.
